Haircare Journey: The beginning #1

My hair is 3a-c. If you don't know what that means, there is a scale for all hair types.

I know some of you may be confused that my hair has different textures in it. But it happens and

its ok one you know. If you don’t know, however, it can be difficult.

I started this journey in year 9. I decided that I was sick of straightening my hair and I saw all these

girls with their curl hair out and I wanted my hair like that. This is why representation is significant.

Anyways I always wanted to have barbie's hair, but now I had found something that was within reach

and achievable.

I asked my mum and she told me that my aunty was the best person to help. My aunt came over

with a bag of hair products. She showed me YouTubers and how to look after my curls.

I think it is safe to say that I am obsessed with my hair and I have been ever since.

Washing my hair became longer, I had to shampoo, condition or/and deep condition. It was so long.

She told me to train my hair. Since it had been straightened so much. She showed me how to twist

my hair.

I began my twist outs. Then she diffused my hair. The problem was that my aunt had thin hair which

is 2c-3a. Her diffuser was small. Whereas my hair was a bigger afro thing that needed to be tamed.

It took forever. I was sitting there impatiently waiting for my curls.

I left them in for a day and took them out. I was shown how to keep it at night and everything.

After that I was left on my own on this new journey, that was to take so much money from and I

didn’t even know.

That Monday I got so many compliments. It was fun and I was feeling myself. As I should, right?

After that day I knew that I was going to carry on. I must admit I was and am very bad at keeping the

curls for the week.

It’s difficult.

You see everyone just being able to do their hair and their curls come out perfect and in the right style

and they look good. And you’re sitting there with patches of curls and frizz in your hair.

Twist outs became my thing for about a year and a half. After that, I learned that I didn’t have to do

twist outs to get my hair curly. It does that naturally.

I still have not reached this. I guess it’s sad really.

Let me know how you guys deal with frizz, regardless of your hair texture.

However, I do not have to twist my hair to get it curly anymore.

I do have a confession though. I used to use soooooooo much product. If you put water in my hair

it would come out like milk because of the product. Also, it wasn’t products that worked together either.

You know when you do the test when you put your conditioner, styler and gel on your hand and see

if they work well together or leave bits in your hair.

Yhhhh. I didn’t pass that test. My hair product left bits, white stuff and other things.

Then there is my discovery of silicon and parabens.

I was using products with these hurtful unforgiving chemicals in them and wondering why my hair

was dry. I will do a blog on silicons and paraben, but please do your own research too.

I think those were my first lessons. If you think there is anything I missed out on. Let me know in the

comments.

My hair was always frizzy and there was like one curl between each patch of frizz.

  1. personally idm a lil bit of frizz as long as it’s not too much if i wanna have it curly. Usually i would run some gel on the ends and coil them curls up .but i cover my hair mostly during the winter months and when i do wear my hair out it’s usually in an afro or bun.

  2. Yh, sometimes I do that. I find that I get the best definition when I use a lot of gel however, I don't like my hair being really hard. So, maybe I could try moose.
